I don't tend to visit premises to download stuff as it's to time consuming, that's done by the owners and then passed to me or if they definitely can't do it we can send another department out. The option to burn AVI files would certainly explain how they are able to view the footage through WMP. Now begins the job of finding the file player on t'interweb!! I am taking my car to said garage on Saturday to have the brakes sorted so can probably take a look then, although the footage is more than 30 days old so may have been wiped from their hard drive, depending on how their system is set up. Had another scout about on the internet today and *think* that.BU may stand for 'backup' and it could very well be from a Samsung machine as the up to date machines give you options to save footage as either an exe file (which presumably includes the file player), an AVI file or a DVR file (.BU ext) which would necessitate the file player being sourced separately. Of course there's every possibility that the data has been downloaded incorrectly by the garage which doesn't help matters any. That side of things I am not particularly clued up about (apart from knowing that it's quite easily messed up if you don't know what you're doing.) May download VLC onto my home laptop later and see if it's a more up to date version that what we have at work, won't hurt to try. This is what makes me wonder if it is a registry problem? I deal with this sort of stuff every day but this one really has got me stumped! It will sort of 'recognise' the BU file in that it will attempt to open a window and the slider bar will run, albeit for only about ten seconds, but no images.

SAMSUNG BU FILE VIEWER WINDOWS
The only clue that I have had is that when they review the cctv from the recorder they allegedly use Windows Media Player, although I can't see that myself.
SAMSUNG BU FILE VIEWER SOFTWARE
The CCTV comes from a garage (of the car repairing variety) and the guys in there, although they may be great at engine tuning, have absolutely no idea what system they are using (I've come across lots of recorders that have no identifying marks on them) and any software disc that came with the system has long since disappeared. Video file created with a Samsung DVR, such as a CCTV (closed circuit television) recording system contains surveillance video in a proprietary Samsung format that can only be played back on Samsung devices or with Samsung's video software. (if exist software for corresponding action in 's database). Recommended software programs are sorted by OS platform (Windows, macOS, Linux etc.) and possible program actions that can be done with the file: like open bu file, edit bu file, convert bu file, view bu file, play bu file etc. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated. The only thing that google comes up with is a lot of suggestions that I perform a registry scan but I don't want to do so in case I end up with a dodgy site.

I have used google and other search engines but cannot find anything with regard to these files being used in a video capacity. There is also a 'dvrlog' which opens in notepad and each set of files purports to be in relation to a different camera from whatever system the files were downloaded from, but doesn't give any further information. There are 4 files in total, 2 have a.BU file extension (around 80mb per file) and 2 have a.db2 file extension (a couple of kb each). However, I can't find any sort of player that will let me view it. I have a disk that allegedly has some CCTV footage on it.
